Medications
- Continue taking all prescribed medications unless otherwise advised.
- Medications for discomfort have been prescribed. Take as directed as needed. Do not exceed recommended dosage.
- For over the counter anti-infammatory drugs, take ibuprofen(brand names Motrin and Advil) 600mg every 4 hours for the first, then as needed. This should be taken with food.
Today
- Apply ice pack(frozen peas) to area if area feels swollen after Novocain wears off.
- Avoid using a tooth brush in surgical area only. Use cotton swabs and peroxide (Peridex, Periogard, if prescribed) in surgical area morning and night.
- Soft diets with plenty of liquids. No hard food (peanuts, raw vegetables, etc.)
- Sleep on two pillows
- Rest and relax and give yourself some TLC. If you should have any seepage (light bleeding) apply pressure with wet gauze for 10-15 minutes. If seepage continues, apply pressure with a wet tea bag (not green tea).
- Brush morning/night. Use rinse in surgical area at the same time.
Avoid Today
- Rinsing or spitting
- Drinking from a straw
- Carbonated beverages
- Smoking
Tomorrow
- Resume rinsing with Peridex (Periogard/ Chlorohexadine)
- Continue Medications
- If swelling occurs, heat may be applied
